My education in Industrial Management instilled entrepreneurial drive in me. Research, coursework, books, personal experiences, and several mentors have guided me along the path I’ve taken over the past two decades.
The journey began with a hobby: an obedience trial with a lovely young lady named Khaki, a blonde Cocker Spaniel who consistently placed first. She was an amazing dog! I was destined to achieve “a dog’s life” – well, at least a life that involved dogs in my work. I worked for a groomer, bathing several dogs each day. This is where I groomed Khaki and learned the skills to create her “show dog” quality. I’d like to introduce you to Janet Holter, founder of Dog Business Review.
Sales and marketing became my niche, leading to a career in CPA and attorney services. This experience taught me how to consistently excel. My clients understood the process necessary for their success and to establish a footprint in their sector. I developed skills in problem-solving, social media, collaboration, and leadership.
Later, an opportunity arose for a team member in raw dog food sales. I traveled to stores in and around Atlanta, enhancing my knowledge of raw diet feeding. I discovered how to motivate, energize, and inspire a passion for the benefits of raw food nutrition. The stores were exceeding their targets, showing profit increases weekly. We strengthened relationships and built trust with store owners.
In 2014, leveraging my skills and experience in the business, I opened a boutique that offered high-end food, retail, grooming, and certified training services. Our tools and staff established an operating system that ensured smooth operations, rapid expansion, and, most importantly, the loyalty of our customers. Our growth led to financial security.
Our team’s passion for pet well-being and customer satisfaction, combined with our extensive industry expertise, uncovered the secret to our ultimate and outstanding success.
Value, and how do you use it? Perception is everything. The value you place on your business is communicated through service, feel, cleanliness, and knowledge. This is your presentation; your clients will pay more when they see value. Use the client’s senses when they walk in your door. Does it look, smell, or sound like a place they want to bring their beloved dog? The service must be above grade.
Next, use a uniform look for your employees. Yes, provide your employees with a shirt that coordinates with your branding. Money spent here will come back to you because your clients like to see a neat team they are leaving their baby with.
Once you have these key things in place, you can charge for the value perceived. The same day, write a welcome and thank you note to your new client. Use good old-fashioned mail, not an email. This step should be part of your system.
